New data reveals that the ongoing UAW strike against Detroit 3 (General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis) has yet to significantly impact U.S. inventory levels of the automakers.

  • General Motors recently reported having 442,586 vehicles either in stock or in transit as of September 30, marking a 3.4% increase from midyear and a 23% rise year-on-year.
  • Ford announced its inventory for September 30 as 424,000 vehicles, equivalent to a 67 days' supply.
  • "Inventory levels remain relatively stable, and, with the exception of some GM models, Detroit automakers have ample inventory for now to keep them operating through the coming month," - Charlie Chesbrough.
  • Cox Automotive's data shows that the total U.S. supply of unsold new vehicles is at 2.21 million, the highest since spring 2021, yet 35% less than pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Toyota is radically overhauling its production system to launch a new fleet of EVs by 2026. This ambitious shift includes breakthrough digital tools, giga-casting techniques, and advanced battery tech, aiming to outpace rivals like Tesla.

  • The new approach includes: Cars autonomously navigating through plants, hyper automated factories with giga-casting techniques, reduced workforce due to advanced automation.
  • Toyota offered a rare tour of its sites over two days in September.
  • Akihisa Shirao from Toyota's BEV Factory expressed hopes of outpacing Tesla in the EV race. "We have been late in starting the progress, but we hope to leapfrog ahead of Tesla this way,"
  • Some of the most impressive technology includes a self propelled assembly line in which battery-powered cars drive themselves from station to station.

BMW’s new electric crossover, the iX2, is coming in just over a week, but you start configuring the car right now in Fortnite, specifically BMW’s homebrew Fortnite island, Hypnopolis.

  • Fortnite has branched out from its Battle Royale mode, adding a Creative mode where users can create their own Fortnite experiences. Hypnopolis is one of those experiences, seemingly created by BMW without any partnership or endorsement from Fornite and its owner Epic Games.
  • Through a gamified experience, the iX2 is unlocked and able to be recolored, fitted with new wheels and have the contents of its trunk changed out.
  • BMW also has a science fiction drama podcast called Hypnopolis in its second season that it is using to promote the brand saying that, “Although much of the podcast’s six episodes sounds like science fiction, some of the visionary themes and futuristic transportation options depicted in Hypnopolis 2 draw their inspiration from what BMW is already putting in place or using in today’s vehicles.”

Paul Daly: 0:01Friday. We made it October 6. Today we're talking about stock being okay. Toyota overhauling their factories watch out for this one and BMW is releasing a vehicle in fortnight

It feels like a zillion. But it's only

It's L U C. K I have you ever heard his last name? It's like

Paul Daly: 1:34

I don't want to say it wrong. Whatever it

Kyle Mountsier: 1:36

is. It's wrong. Because it sounds like as a T It's Lewicki. Lutz, Michael Lewicki. That's for all the people now you know.

Paul Daly: 1:43

Oh, I'm glad you said that. Because I just have avoided say his last name because I don't know how to say. But you know, I love you, Michael. No, I love you. What else we got? Ed Roberts is on there. It's gonna be like 2030 minutes and we lots of people in the comments, and you get to see it first. So join us there. All right, I think we got to talk about a little bit of news. Aw, update. What are we gonna do when we don't have a UAW? Oh, man,

Kyle Mountsier: 2:53

talk about real things feel better about everything.

Paul Daly: 2:57

data reveals that the ongoing UAW strike against the Detroit three has yet to significantly impact in US inventory levels of the automaker, so general, more General Motors talked about earlier this week, reported a precise 442,586 vehicles either in stock or in transit. As of September 30, which is up it's up it's an increase from year over year, Ford announced its inventory at 424,000 vehicles equivalent to a 67 day supply. Oh, getting tighter, it's still getting tighter. I will say that because they were bringing what it was like 18 months ago. Oh, it was like it was a lot seven days to fly. Right?

Kyle Mountsier: 3:39

It was it was a lot. Um,

Paul Daly: 3:40

here's a quote from Charlie Jesper or buddy from Cox Ford. And now, inventory levels remain relatively stable. And with the exception of some GM models, Detroit automakers have ample inventory for now, to keep them operating through the coming month. Cox automotive data shows that the total US supply of unsold new vehicles is at 2.2 1 million, the highest since spring of 2021. Yet 35, or 35%, less than pre pandemic levels in 2019. But we don't even think about that anymore, doesn't mean it's not even

Kyle Mountsier: 4:11

on the radar.

Paul Daly: 4:12

The auto industry has moved on to whatever was pre pandemic we do in a different way now and we do it

Kyle Mountsier: 4:17

better. It's a whole different way. Hey, there's still plenty of vehicles in the market that you know, look out as as this gets stricter, you're just gonna see other automakers start to win because people are still gonna want the new cars and they might be less brand loyal because they want the inventory when it now is going to challenge loyalty. Like we haven't talked about that a lot yet, but challenging loyalty in this timeline. If you are a Ford, GM or still ANSYS dealer, getting in front of your customers, talking about service retention, talking about them coming back to brand, getting people like ready to stay loyal is going to be important. If for some reason you start to have a more stringent inventory on your lats.

Paul Daly: 4:58

Finally, Nissan kept the Titan around. But like what else is left the tundra? Right? That's like the full site pickup option. Yep, I don't know. We'll see what happens. Well, speaking of speaking of what options stop making cars, making cars. Toyota is radically overhauling its production system for famously the TPS Toyota Production System to launch a new fleet of EVs by 2026. This ambitious shift includes breakthrough digital tools, giga casting techniques, does that sound familiar? That's making the cybertruck and advanced battery tech aiming to outpace rivals, like the very Tesla new approach includes cars autonomously navigating through plants, hyper automated factories with Giga casting and a reduced workforce due to the advanced automation. They Toyota earlier offered a rare tour of its manufacturing plants I would have loved to have been on that two day tour in September and Akihisa. She She rail from Toyota is battery electric vehicle factory Express hopes of outpacing Tesla and said, quote, we have been late in the starting in starting the progress. But we hope to leapfrog ahead of Tesla this year, or of Tesla this way, and if you know Toyota, they might not be

Kyle Mountsier: 6:21

going to move. I'm just telling you right now they're going to come out of the gate so fast with their production. And this you know, that cars autonomously autonomously navigating through plants, like if there is one reason for autonomous driving, that has to be it

Paul Daly: 6:37

that is so impressive. So smart car moves itself and you think like that's possible with EVs and not with ice vehicles, right? You don't have the gas you don't have any, you know, fumes or emission. If you're gonna crush it, you're gonna set this level,

Kyle Mountsier: 6:49

I can't wait to see what happens. You know, I will say we talked to a couple people that were at the Toyota meeting, you know, nothing mind boggling here. We're not blowing a bunch of secrets or anything. But they did talk a lot, apparently, about how hey, look, remember, we've been doing hybrids for a long time. And the reason why we're still trying to figure out exactly where we're headed with EVs, is because we can make basically 1000 hybrid batteries for the materials that it takes to make one evey battery 1000 Yeah, I think that's what the number was. It was like ridiculous. Good. Maybe it was I Yeah, it was. Maybe it was 100. It had a couple of zeros. That's a lot. By the way, that's a big deal when you look at like some of the mining's practices and some of the question marks around mine was pretty good at selling hybrid. So, I mean, this is what's wild. This is what blood this I was having this conversation. I was like, you know how many Toyota owners I bet you don't even know their vehicles are a hybrid. That's a great point. Just because it's like it's just natural for them. Yeah, they took

Paul Daly: 7:51

like all the graphics away where you know, maybe back in the day, it was like, look, it's charging this and now the wheels are they don't need that anymore. Why? Because it just works like you expect just works. Oh, man. All right. How you gonna segue into this one?

Kyle Mountsier: 8:04

I have no clue how I'm gonna segue into this one but this one is. This is a whole new world to a whole new world. My segway Alright, BMW is new electric crossover. The i x two is coming in just over a week. But instead of configuring the car on bmw.com or anything like you would expect it you configure the car right now in fortnight. Okay, for all

Paul Daly: 8:34

you older folks out there folks,

Kyle Mountsier: 8:37

specifically BMWs homebrew fortnight Island INNOPOLIS so they have their own island hypnotizing us fortnight. fortnight has basically they branched out from their typical Braddock Battle Royale mode, creating adding a creative mode where users can create their own fortnight experiences. Hip novelists is one of those experiences Siemens see created by a BMW without any partnership or endorsement from fortnight, and its owner Epic Games, so they just like they were like, great, we've got this new platform, we're gonna leverage it, we're gonna lean in, we're gonna create this thing. Through a gamified experience the ix two is unlocked and able to be recovered. They do with new wheels, and even have the contents of its trunk changed out. They also interestingly enough, this is wild. They have a science fiction drama podcast called hip Nautilus in and it's already in its second season. They're using this to promote the overall BMW brand saying that although much of this podcast six episodes sound like science fiction, some of the visionary themes and futuristic transportation options depicted in hip monopolists to draw their inspiration from BMW is already putting in place or using today's via

Paul Daly: 9:48

alright, I'm a fan. I'm gonna go ask my 12 year old to log into fortnight so you have to

Kyle Mountsier: 9:53

this please record this

Paul Daly: 9:55

on you do it on a PlayStation, if you think Gen Z might shop for ours a little differently, everybody.

Kyle Mountsier: 10:01

We were having a conversation right before this, Nathan and I it's like, we were actually just talking about this on the wheel wheel house where Ferrari right was leaning into a younger demographic and now you see BMW Do you want? You want to know what fortnight users that understand this are going to be buying when they're in their 20s? Probably BMWs. So this is nuts.

Paul Daly: 10:28

Oh, man. Well, we have a big week next week. We got some travel we're going to be a name add. We're going to bring you all the stuff. Hey, make sure you check out the Nomad coverage next Wednesday through Friday, but hey, we got a weekend to sell some cars hanging out the family. We'll see when we see it.
