On december 24 Santa is in the air. We're on the air today. We're gonna be tapping in to our more than cars panel. We're talking to Liza Borches, Letty bozart And Ed Roberts. That isn't a Christmas Eve morning show. I don't know
Kyle Mountsier 0:16
what is. It'll just get you encouraged. You know, like just their voices alone will encourage you, but we got to have this conversation with these three back of the year in extravaganza, and it's always fun talking to them, because they are caring. They care about their people, their company, but they care about the industry at large too. It's not just like a siloed single focus. I love them. One of the
Paul J Daly 0:40
cool things that you're about to see is a sneak peek trailer at a four season two of more than cars. And one of the special things is we got to show them the sneak peek trailer. They had never seen it before. Actually, I had never even seen it before when we rolled it. So we hope you enjoy this conversation with Liza Borches, Letty Bozar and Ed Roberts.
Speaker 1 1:06
So one of the most favorite projects that we have going on right now is creating our Docu series, more than cars, the series that is going around the country, taking Paul myself and our entire crew out to tell the real truth about car dealers right now, you can find season one on Prime Video, and we're in the middle of producing our second season, so we wanted to bring on some of the stars of the stores that we have been filming for season two. Please welcome Ed Roberts. I've got Letty bozart And Liza Borches, and we may have some other ones popping in as we go. This is a live show. Everybody kind of hey, all of you. Thank you so much for joining us. We've got what's really cool here. We've got a bunch of multi generational dealers, actually, in the call and Letty and Liza here are both that Letty, I'd love to hear from you, what's one of the biggest lessons that you've learned from the generations that have gone before you in order to create the culture in your dealership that you have today?
Speaker 2 2:10
I think the biggest one for us is just community. You know, our we started out as this tiny Ford dealership in St Augustine, Florida, which was at that time, a tiny town, and there was a sense of community, and our dealership was a piece of that. And so throughout my brother and I are the third generation. We have the fourth generation working in the store. Now, we've grown a lot, but we've really tried to stay committed to holding on to that, that piece that that is our responsibility to our community. So they did it really well and grew the store through the two generations before us, and we just want to do the same thing.
Paul J Daly 2:49
And Liza, I think that's really interesting. She said they have the fourth generation in the store right now. You are the fourth generation of your family. Give us a little bit like, what is the what are the lessons that you've learned from the generations, because you're actually one generation ahead.
Speaker 3 3:05
Well, you know, I think that if anybody looks at generational dealership groups, I think what Letty just shared about community is probably present in all of them that have been around as long as our two and three and four other groups that might be a part of this season to could share community is such a key thing. The other thing that I've learned this year is we were celebrating 100 years. I got to hear stories from 1929 and 1942 and 1967 I had never heard before, as we learned about our history. But what I found was those stories, the lessons learned, were evident in how we do business today, and so even though we don't know everything in our history, those experiences are are shared throughout the years and actually groom the business that we are today. So I've learned that from our history, tenacity and drive, coupled with an extremely high level of uncommon care, is what's going to help a business be around for 100 years, and we got to make sure we drive that in the future.
Kyle Mountsier 4:12
That's exactly right. Ed, you obviously have taken a role within the company, and bozart has done so good at challenging convention to not just work on what's going on in the community from people impacts perspective, but also from an operations perspective. Can you talk a little bit about your ambitious goals for how you're challenging convention in the service department?
Ed Roberts 4:36
Well, a big part of it is challenging status quo, and I'm blessed that the bozars allow us to do that because it's not easy, it's not cheap, it's not you copying someone else's Hey, let's go chart the uncharted waters. And sometimes that rings and sometimes it doesn't, and you have to be okay, we'll say, Okay, let's try that again. And I'm just on. Honored that DNA has carried over over the generations to where, hey, innovations are key, and less challenge the status quo and all for our community, what they're really looking
Paul J Daly 5:10
for, you know? And so you, you were basically started. When? How long has it been since you started? I know we talked about this, but when did you
Speaker 4 5:19
start with bozart and September of 2012
Paul J Daly 5:23
he know, he knows the time. So in that, in that time period, you've kind of been grafted, is what it seems like, into the family, and have become such a center point to the industry. For the Beaux art group, what are the things that you are now feeling, the the urgency to espouse on their behalf, both to your people, your community, and to the rest of the industry, because you really are like a spokesperson for the heart of the Beaux art family. Well, it's really
Ed Roberts 5:49
breaking down silos, and this industry is so stuck in Well, each department's its own business, and they are to an extent, but they all feed off of each other, and so taking that alignment and bringing everybody into the fold, where we're all pushing in the same direction that that's where it really comes together, where we can all win from it, and being a piece of that is just It's heartwarming, and it's fun to watch as these guys, as the light bulbs turn on, and they get it as well, and they start pushing forward to not just help their department, but help the others around them.
Paul J Daly 6:21
We have a little surprise. I mean, I don't know how big of a surprise, maybe you expected it, but we've recently, I think within the last six weeks, maybe even the last four weeks, we've been able to spend time with you all in person as we were shooting episodes of for more than car season two. We had a lot of surprises. Even as we were on site Liza, we got to go in one of the very first building that ever was a part of your family's group, your father or your grandfather, like your father, never was able to go in the building. We ended up going in. And then when we went to the Beaux Arts, Kyle and Kyle and I found ourselves making leather goods on the service floor with Beau Boz art. So it's been, it's been a bit of an adventure. And unfortunately, I don't think the Romans couldn't be here, but with them, Kyle and I were dressed up in Halloween costumes chasing each other through an office. Of course, our team put together a sneak peek, so we wanted to show you the sneak peek. This is the first time anyone's actually getting eyes on it. I haven't even seen it yet, so we're gonna watch that, and then we'll get your reaction to it.
Bo Bozard 7:21
I hope I never forget the look on my sister's face. It's one of the happiest looks I've ever seen. She walked into a staff meeting a year and a half ago with this brown bag full of these plastic tubes with shoe strings in them, and the shoe strings said, love people more than cars, and she just looks at me. She goes, I found it.
Speaker 5 7:49
If you take the whole history of our company, it's just one relationship story after another,
Ryan Rohrman 7:57
21 years old, and I'm nervous, like grandfathers, Bob Roman, like you train me or this way, he said to me, he goes, right, it's not about selling cars. It's about loving the customer and then falling in love with you. And if you do that, you'll be successful.
Speaker 5 8:16
My name badge, everybody puts a word for the year. I said, nada. I can't change my word relationships is on my thing. It's too important.
Bo Bozard 8:28
You want to just keep talking about this.
Paul J Daly 8:32
I'm like, I'm sitting by the fire at this point.
Unknown Speaker 8:42
I fun, so fun. It's
Speaker 1 8:45
gonna be so good. We can't wait to share your stories. We can't wait to share it with with more people, and to continue to watch each of your dealers and dealer groups challenge the status quo and continue to serve their communities. To each of you, thank you so much for being a part of this great industry and sharing your stories with us.
Speaker 2 9:03
Thanks for having us. We loved having you guys there. Happy holidays. Those
Paul J Daly 9:10
are some of my favorite people right there. Can I say absolutely
Kyle Mountsier 9:12
are, and I am ridiculously excited for season two. We've been started in the editing room. We've been filming it already. We got a couple more to still shoot. The good news is right now, if you just listen to that and you're like, I need some more than cars in my holiday tradition. Oh, so many ways to do that. Now you can go to more than cars.tv. You can stream it on Amazon Prime. You can stream it on to be or you can do it on YouTube, wherever you want, to your family, your friends, you can gather around the TV and watch little more than cars this holidays. I'll tell
Paul J Daly 9:46
you what, if you want to give a soda, a little Christmas present, actually, if you want to give the auto industry a little Christmas present, the most effective place you can watch it right now is actually on Amazon Prime video search more than cars. It does cost a. Dollar 99 we're still waiting to get to the ad supported tier. But listen, are you really gonna notice the dollar 99 when that credit card bill hits in January? You're not the dollar 99 it's not really money, like we don't really get anything from that. However, it does show Amazon that there is an appetite and an audience for this type of programming. You boost the auto industry in the algorithm, and it'll be really it's kind of bragging rights, too. When you have your family around, you're
Speaker 1 10:25
like, Oh, what are we watching on Amazon Prime? Oh, last night.
Paul J Daly 10:29
Funny story. My wife and I were like, Oh, what are we gonna watch? And so we opened Amazon and in the like, you know, more than the recommended because you pulled it up. Oh, so I made her watch every episode. I'm just kidding. Oh, listen, everybody, whatever it is that you're doing today, we hope that you lean into the people around you. You remember the reason we do all the work we do, and you just enjoy the family, enjoy the people. Remember the things that are more than cars and we
