Mercedes-Benz is bringing level 3 self-driving to the US.
The Fine Print. The Drive Pilot system is approved for use in Nevada but only up to 40 mph.
Nevada's statement makes it clear the state is down to clown. "Nevada law allows all automation levels to operate on public streets," a spokesperson for the state said.
Wide awake. The system will allow a driver to do other things (like play Tetris on the infotainment system) while independently operating, but if the driver's face is not visible, the system will disengage.
