Lightyear, a Dutch EV startup, announced yesterday that it will halt assembly of its first EV just a few months into production. The flagship Lightyear 0 was introduced in 2019 as one of the first EVs with solar capabilities.
To Two (and beyond?) The Lightyear 2 is the startup’s new focus and will inherit all the advancements of the Lightyear 0, but it will be only a fraction of the price at around $40K. The company says they already have about 20K pre-orders from fleet owners, which is ahead of the 2025 production plan. As the abrupt cancellation of the Lightyear 0 makes evident, a lot can happen between now and then.
