The Justice Department said Tuesday they seized over $3.6 billion in cryptocurrency, bitcoin, traced back to a hack in 2016. In addition to the largest financial seizure ever made by the Justice Department, two arrests were made in connection with alleged attempts to launder the proceeds.
Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said the arrests and seizure show "Cryptocurrency is not a safe haven for criminals," making special mention of the complexity the would-be thieves used to hide their digital tracks.
