Some people meet their heroes at NADA. Leaders and innovators from the automotive industry rubbing elbows and standing shoulder to shoulder with newcomers. It is rare but not impossible for such heroes to be born at NADA. One Knee defied the odds and became an overnight sensation, household name, and viral internet trend.
We caught up with The Knee on a chilly NY morning to bend back some of the complex layers of America's most beloved celebrity.
Thanks for being so flexible with your time. Can you walk us through a day in your life?
That's literally the main thing I do.
Tell us how you prepared for your role?
Since going viral, I'm me-deep in reporters and tweets and people trying to get me to do interviews like this one. Nothing I could have done would have prepared me for all of this. I was in the gym, focused on the lower thigh/upper calves, waiting for my moment but I should have been hiring an agent... or joint specialist.
While everybody's eyes are on you, who do you look up to?
Well, by default, I look up at pretty much everybody.
Oh yeah, sorry, we mean, who inspires you?
From a young age, I would watch WWE's The People's Elbow and knew who I wanted to be. Who remembers the guy that elbow was attached to? Nobody. Everybody remembers that powerful elbow. Just like they'll remember me.
Before we go, we have to ask, can you tell us about the #DontBeKneedy movement?
Knees everywhere deserve more recognition. Imagine a day without them? Horrible right? So Don't Be Kneedy is all about recognizing the knees that keep folks going. It's my way of using my platform for good.
Conclusion: Shout out to The Knee for its time and also make sure you thank Automotive News Publisher KC Krain and writer C.J. Moore for introducing the nation to the #DontBeKneedy movement. To join the movement, simply post an image of your knee on social media and tag ASOTU.
