Ford's new dealer certification requirements will result in one of the largest fast-charging networks in the US. Once certified, Ford's 1920 EV-ready dealerships will be the most extensive network by number of locations. The number of chargers and market coverage will place the brand in the mix with Tesla, EVgo, and Electrify America.
Ford wants to provide value to its EV customers, so if dealers could drop a dime on some chargers, that would be great.
GM is also working with its dealers to provide a robust charging network. Nearly 1,000 dealers have enrolled in the level 2 charger program. The plan involves bringing up to 40K charging stations to rural America. Using slower level two chargers means the company will seek locations where drivers may leave their cars for several hours.
Finally! EV chargers may become part of familiar country music imagery.
Nio is expanding its battery swap station presence in Germany. The company is aiming for 120 stations in Europe by the end of next year. Utility provider EnBW is investing over $100M a year in charging infrastructure growth and says it will continue to work with Nio to add swapping stations.
Battery swapping kinda makes vehicle ownership feel like borrowing with extra steps.
