The top three economies in the world are the US, China, and Japan. For now, the 4th is Germany, but California is catching up and will soon be 4th.
The state saw massive sales growth in the last three years in tech (63%), media (95%), and software (115%). German growth in health care (43%), consumer spending (2%), and industrial (7%) was much slower in the same period.
