A month after Google's parent company, Alphabet, Amazon has announced plans for its first split since September 1999. The split will divide each share into 20 pieces of equal value. The resulting 20 shares' value will equal one current share.
At the time of the news, a single share of Amazon Inc had a value of $2,785.58. After the split, each of the twenty new shares would be worth $139.28. Amazon hopes the change will make their stock more accessible to investors and offer employees more flexibility in managing their equity.
